Indications for Transfusions Program Overview

On September 24, 2018, the Blood Systems organization united under one shared name, Vitalant. Programs posted prior to that date may contain legacy branding.

Program Description

This intermediate-level course begins with the history of transfusion and examines numerous studies that have driven change throughout the years. It then covers current-day practices, including transfusion guidelines, necessary component modifications and misconceptions, and finishes with how modern transfusion guidelines may be used to help drive change in transfusion care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe common transfusion trends and research
  • Explain best practices for transfusion guidelines
  • Identify product attributes and modifications
  • Clarify dosage misconceptions
  • Apply guidelines to drive change
