Transfusion medicine has made significant advancements since the days of whole blood administration. Today it is possible to modify and manufacture blood products that meet the specific needs of individuals requiring transfusion. This presentation will provide information on basic blood products used in transfusion medicine, as well as, modified and specialty blood products that meet specific patients? clinical needs.
Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will be able to:
Identify routine and specialty blood products used in transfusion medicine.
Explain the clinical situations in which these products may be indicated.
Describe methods for preparation of routine and specialty blood products.

Jana Julleis MBA, MT(ASCP)SBB is the Director of clinical laboratory at Blood Systems Laboratory. In her prior role, Jana was a director in Blood Systems' manufacturing processes department for nearly ten years. Prior to joining Blood Systems, Jana spent eleven years at the American Red Cross in St. Louis, providing direction in the areas of component manufacturing, storage and distribution and quality assurance.
